What operating system, and at how many bits, would be fastest for me to use for my computer?
I just bought a computer but it needs an operating system. I am choosing between XP and Vista. I know my computer is fast enough to use Vista Ultimate 64 Bit, but I want to keep a good balance in my system. As far as I am concerned there are many varieties in Operating Systems. There are your XP’s and Vista’s, and between them I have the option to go with versions: Home, Media, Professional, Business, Ultimate, Etc. And even after that there 32 and 64 Bit versions.
Here are the specifications for my computer:
*AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 6400+ AM2
*DUAL CHANNEL 8GB (4x2GB) DDR-2 800MHZ PC-6400
*nVidia GeForce 8500GT 1GB DVI/HDTV PCI-Express Video Card
I will use this computer mostly to go online, watch movies, play video games, type up school projects, listen to music, use Photoshop; sometimes altogether.
Give me your opinions on all of the options that I gave and explanations on everything you can so that a rookie like myself can make a perfect decision.
I would suggest Windows Vista Premium x64. This will offer you the full experience of Windows Vista at the fastest speed and best bang for your buck. You are also preparing for the future by opting for the newer operating system. XP will die someday and that day will come before the death of Vista.
Windows XP
1) do not even think about 64bit Windows XP. You will run into many driver issues if you go this route.
2) Windows XP 32bit supports no more than 3GB of memory (RAM)
Windows Vista
The 64bit operating systems offer support for much more memory and faster speeds. With the Basic you will be missing out on many of the customization features offered. Premium will give you plenty of options to play around with and tweak. Ultimate is not very necessary as it offers very little advantage over the Premium and is a bit more expensive. Support for Windows Vista Ultimate ends in 2012. Save your money for better operating systems in the future.

I just got a new laptop brand laptop (1.5 GB of RAM). Why did it take so long to load Vista on that principle?
I have enough hard disk space and enough RAM, but for some reason, it took an hour to see load at startup … Can anyone help? I ps I do not want the partitions on my hard drive, which is not as big of a deal, but can someone tell me how to merge the two partitions for the PS one? and 1.5 GB of RAM, I have 1GB in the slot and 500 MB in the location of another (no matter who is in slot one?). Can I mix two different brands of RAM as crucial and Kingston?
I want to upgrade my RAM. Currently I have 2 512MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory. I want to add 2 more, but form a different society. Is it because of problems with Sony's office, although the type of RAM is the same or I buy two of the same company name 1GB of RAM?

I currently use an IBM T40 has a chipset and 512 MB of RAM as time (can be extended to 2 GB of video memory) and 32MB. If I upgrade my RAM to 2GB, my video memory mounted also 64 MB or more In addition, 128 MB? Thank you! 
If the RAM uses shared memory from RAM instead of dedicated / video RAM discrete, it may be possible to upload your video RAM in BIOS.
